Mary Moreno

Biography

As an author, journalist, creative director, screenwriter, songwriter and composer, Mary Moreno has created a unique career that bridges the worlds of music, film, fiction and nonfiction, as well as corporate communications and advertising.

Born in Chicago, she studied at the American Conservatory of Music, and worked for several 4A's advertising agencies as a copywriter and producer. After moving to New York, she pursued a career in music as a studio singer, songwriter and performer with her band, “Bloody Mary,” while freelancing articles and speeches for the business community.

Through workshops in screenwriting and fiction at the Writer’s Voice, she studied with Saul Zachary, Sonia Pilcer, Don Shea, Regina McBride, and the late Heather Lewis.

Moreno's consulting firm, Writerforhire, Inc., specializes in corporate communications, providing

• Branding, marketing and promotional campaigns
• Executive and motivational speeches
• Proposals
• Press Kits
• Video Scripts
• Training Materials
• Interactive Material and Web Content
• White Papers
• Ghostwritten articles and books

for a diverse mix of Fortune 500 corporations, multimedia production companies and advertising agencies. She also conducts seminars on creativity and the freelance life.

The Writer’s Guide to Corporate Communications (Allworth Press) is the culmination of Moreno’s experience as a “writer for hire,” designed to guide the serious writer through the corridors of corporate reality. It is a comprehensive “how to,” illustrating how to make a lucrative living by writing to order, using the principles of fiction, drama and character development to enhance corporate assignments.

Moreno is currently shopping her debut novel, Racing the Train, while working on her second novel. She is also producing a digital film that documents her worldwide travels with the Original Blues Brothers Band, for whom she co-wrote the title tune on their Red, White & Blues CD, with Alan Rubin and Leon Pendarvis. The song was performed on video by Dan Aykroyd.

Other credits include Influencing the Affluent, a guide to luxury marketing, ghostwritten for an advertising agency CEO; liner notes for The Nuff Brothers Band debut CD; and “A Child’s Voice,” a video documentary about music programs in the New York City public school system.

Moreno divides her time between her home in Woodstock, NY and New York City, where she is currently studying composition and contemporary music at Juilliard.
